Tuthill Porsche said farewell to its 997 R-GT rally car in style earlier this month, with a private test at Curburough Sprint Circuit for the new Italian owner and his regular co-driver before the car left UK shores.

Tuthill’s R-GT rally car was the talk of the 2015 European rally season, as it battled for victory in the inaugural FIA R-GT Cup, held across selected rounds of the FIA World and European Rally Championships. With a series of podium finishes, and outright wins on both the Monte Carlo Rally and the Tour de Corse, Tuthill’s modern 911 eventually claimed R-GT Cup victory, carrying the trophy back to the team’s base at Wardington in Oxfordshire.

“Winning the R-GT Cup was a great achievement, but the real satisfaction came from entertaining so many thousands of rally fans all over Europe,” said team boss Richard Tuthill. “We developed the car right through the season and were still applying upgrades through R-GT’s pre-sale refurbishment. It’s a wonderfully capable rally car, and we look forward to seeing the Italian fans out in force to welcome R-GT to its new home in Sicily.”

The first event for R-GT in the hands of new owner and well-known Italian Porsche rally and racing driver, Domenico ‘Mimmo’ Guagliardo, is the forthcoming Targa Florio, which celebrates its centenary in 2016. “Richard and his team have built a wonderful car that is great fun to drive,” said Domenico at the end of a successful day’s testing. “We are delighted to bring the R-GT Cup winner home to Sicily for this very special Targa celebration. When we announced our new purchase, I had many requests to drive the car in the Targa Florio, but that pleasure will be all mine. We are excited to get started!”

Tuthill Porsche is sending a technical team out to support the 997 R-GT on the Targa Florio, which runs from May 4-8. Follow updates from the event on the Tuthill Porsche website at www.tuthillporsche.com and on the Tuthill Porsche social media feeds.
